On Friday, the Nashville Police Department confirmed the death of Kyle Jacobs, a songwriter, and producer, and the husband of American Idol alum Kellie Pickler. He was 49.
The Department of Emergency Communications was alerted to the couple’s Nashville home at 1:21 p.m. local time on Friday and arrived to find Jacobs deceased. His death is being investigated as an apparent suicide.
Jacobs relocated from Minneapolis, Minnesota, to Nashville in 2000, according to Music City Hitmakers.
Throughout his career, Jacobs penned songs such as Garth Brooks’ 2007 hit “More Than A Memory” and Tim McGraw’s “Still”. He has also worked with well-known artists like Kelly Clarkson, Randy Travis, Scott McCreery, Josh Kelley, and Clay Walker. He was a composer and producer of Lee Brice’s fifth studio album Hey World and was honored to be a creative part of it.
Jacobs shared a celebratory post on social media on the success of the album the day before his apparent suicide. The album had gone gold, and its breakout single “One of Them Girls” had gone double platinum, while “Memory I Don’t Mess With” was a gold single.

Jacobs won a CMA Award, and an ACM Award, and was nominated for a Grammy Award. He and Pickler tied the knot in a secret ceremony in 2011.
The Nashville Police Department said in a statement to ET, “On Friday, February 12, 2021, at approximately 1:21 pm, the Nashville Police Department responded to a report of a deceased person at a residence on Old Hickory Boulevard. Upon arrival, officers located the deceased person, identified as 49-year-old Kyle Jacobs, who was pronounced dead at the scene.”
The statement continued, “At this time, the death is being investigated as an apparent suicide. The family of Mr. Jacobs has been notified. No further information is available at this time.”
