Hugh Jackman is ready to show off a new side of Wolverine. After 10 films as the beloved X-Men character, Jackman is set to reprise his role as Wolverine in the upcoming third Deadpool movie with Ryan Reynolds. In a recent interview, Jackman shed some light on why this story will be different for Wolverine.
“When I keep thinking of me and Ryan, of Deadpool and Wolverine, which are classic comic-book rivals, there’s also a dynamic that I’ve never really got to do before as Wolverine,” said Jackman. “I just thought, ‘This is gonna be fun. Something I’ve never done before. I can’t wait.’”
Jackman admitted that he thought he was “done” playing Wolverine before the script for Deadpool 3 came along.
Jackman said, “I was at peace with it. I got asked every day, either in interviews or Ryan Reynolds [saying,] ‘Can we do it again?’ and I’m like, ‘No, I’m done.’ ”
However, Jackman is ready to jump back in and is hopeful that fans will enjoy the latest installment of Deadpool, which is expected to be released in theaters in 2024.
Jackman believes that being on set with Reynolds every day and seeing them fight each other on screen will make this movie one of the most fun he’s ever done.
Jackman has been playing Wolverine since 2000. His last time playing the character was in the 2017 film Logan. Since then, fans have been clamoring for the return of Wolverine. Now, thanks to Reynolds and Jackman, the wait for Wolverine’s return is almost over.
In a previous interview with People, Jackman said of the new Deadpool movie, “I think being on set with [Ryan] every day and those two on film in every city together everyday … I think it’s fair to say they’ll be punching the s— out of each other the whole time. All jokes aside, I’ll probably have more fun on this movie than any other I’ve ever done.”
