On January 1st, 2023, actor and Marvel star, Jeremy Renner, suffered a “weather-related” snowplow accident that resulted in blunt chest trauma and orthopedic injuries.
According to People magazine, Renner’s representative shared a statement that the actor underwent surgery on January 2nd and remains in critical but stable condition.
“We can confirm that Jeremy has suffered blunt chest trauma and orthopedic injuries and has undergone surgery today, January 2nd 2023,” the statement read. “He has returned from surgery and remains in the intensive care unit in critical but stable condition.
Renner is best known for his portrayal of Hawkeye, a sharp-shooting member of the Avengers squad, in Marvel’s expansive movie and television universe. The actor is also a two-time Academy Award nominee, having been recognized for his performance in 2009’s “The Hurt Locker” and 2010’s “The Town”.
The news of Renner’s accident has elicited an outpouring of love and support from his fans and peers. “Guardians of the Galaxy” director and DC Studios co-chairman, James Gunn, tweeted “My heart is with @JeremyRenner”. Actor Josh Gad also took to Twitter to express his support for Renner and his family, writing “My God. Praying for @JeremyRenner and his family.”
Renner’s family has expressed their gratitude to the medical professionals, the Truckee Meadows Fire and Rescue, the Washoe County Sheriff, Reno City Mayor Hillary Schieve, and the Carano and Murdock families. The 51-year-old actor’s accident occurred in an area near Mt. Rose Highway, a road linking Lake Tahoe with south Reno. A source told People magazine that Renner’s injuries were “extensive”, requiring him to be flown by helicopter to a hospital for treatment.
Renner posted to Twitter just a few weeks before his accident about the extensive snowfall his home received.
