The story of Mike Hugo and country music star Tim McGraw is one of determination and love. Mike Hugo, a father of two young daughters, was diagnosed with stage 4 glioblastoma, an aggressive brain tumor, in April of 2022. Realizing he may not be able to be there for some of the most important moments in his daughters’ lives, he found an inspirational solution.
Inspired by the 2007 movie, “P.S. I Love You”, Mike Hugo put out a request to Tim McGraw, a father of three daughters himself. He shared a video on Facebook in which he spoke about his diagnosis and his wish to record a duet with Tim McGraw of his song, “My Little Girl”, to be played at his daughters’ future weddings.
Soon after posting the video, Mike Hugo was in contact with McGraw’s agents, and his family was flown from Florida to Nashville to meet with the country singer himself. In late February, Mike Hugo and his family were at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville. Tim McGraw welcomed them warmly and they spent the night dancing, singing, and making memories. Tim McGraw shared this moment on his social media accounts, expressing his joy of being part of Mike Hugo’s special family moment.
In addition to dancing with his daughters, Mike Hugo also recorded a duet with Tim McGraw of “My Little Girl”. Mike Hugo said he hopes this meeting with McGraw becomes one of his life lessons to his daughters: you can make dreams come true.
