A TikToker recently went viral after she shared a story about her mother-in-law showing up to her wedding wearing a white bridal gown that closely resembled her own.
Jasmine Hopper, who is known for her TikTok account, recently posted a series of videos in which she recounted her experience. She explained that she and her mother-in-law had gone wedding dress shopping together. Hopper ultimately opted for a “mermaid-style, lace, sequin-style gown,” while her mother-in-law remained undecided.
On the day of the wedding, Hopper was in the midst of doing her hair and makeup when she first spotted her mother-in-law’s dress, but she didn’t fully register it at the time. However, when she and her husband hit the dance floor for their first ceremonial dance, everyone at the wedding seemed to notice that the mother-in-law was wearing a white gown which appeared to be a wedding gown that was cut and fabric strikingly resembled Hopper’s own.

“I can’t even put into words how embarrassed I am that my mother-in-law wore the same dress as me on my wedding day,” she said. “It hurts my soul, it ruined all the pictures on my day. All I can think about when I think about my wedding is the dumb b**h who had my dress on.”
The incident has since caused a stir on social media, with viewers seething with fury on Hopper’s behalf and many relating to similar nightmare in-law situations. Some suggested that Hopper confront her mother-in-law, while others said it would have been appropriate for the maid of honor to step in and ask her to leave. Some even suggested photoshopping the mother-in-law’s dress.
Hopper later said that she and her husband have since ceased contact with the mother-in-law due to “crazy antics and poor-me mentality.” She defended her husband, noting that he grew up in a codependent relationship with an immature parent and was oblivious to the dress mishap on their wedding day.
