Gerard Butler Cries Over Almost Killing Hilary Swank On Set of ‘P.S. I Love You’

Gerard Butler is sharing an incredible story of almost killing Hilary Swank on the set of their movie P.S. I Love You.

The actor recently appeared on The Drew Barrymore Show where he recounted the incident that occurred while they were filming a scene.

According to Butler, the scene was supposed to involve his character, Gerry Kennedy, getting undressed while wearing a pair of boxer shorts and suspenders. However, the suspender clip got stuck and then released, sending it flying toward Swank, who was hit in the head. Butler revealed that the clip even left teeth marks on her forehead.

“It gets stuck, it releases [and] flies over my head, hits her in the head — slashes her head,” he recounted. “I cut her open. You could even see the teeth [of the clip]. She had to get taken to the hospital.”

The entire set cleared out immediately, leaving Butler alone with Swank who had to be taken to the hospital. Butler admitted he was filled with guilt and remorse, so much so that he started to cry and vowed to put Swank’s needs before his own for the rest of the shoot. Thankfully, Swank was able to recover and the two were able to finish the movie.

Butler continued saying, “Imagine this studio, and in three seconds, everybody’s gone. And I’m just sitting there in my Irish [shamrock] boxer shorts and my boots and a pair of socks, and I just started crying. I scarred Hilary Swank. I almost took her eye out, and I just made a fool of myself for two days.”

The 2007 romantic drama follows the story of Holly Kennedy, played by Swank, who, after the death of her husband, discovers he has left her 10 messages to help her through her grieving process. Along with Butler, the cast also included Lisa Kudrow, Gina Gershon, James Marsters, Harry Connick Jr. and Jeffrey Dean Morgan.
