At the 2023 SAG Awards, actress Aubrey Plaza was seen appearing to be “annoyed” on stage as her cast of “White Lotus” won Best Ensemble. This created speculation as to why she was seemingly upset, and people took to social media to express their thoughts. However, Plaza’s co-star Fred Gries has come forward to clarify the situation.

Gries revealed that Plaza was actually being blocked by about 15 people on stage, and he jokingly told her to “look to the front”, referring to the underboob peaking out of her dress. Gries said that Plaza’s response was due to her “dry, deadpan wit”, and that she was “just being funny.” He also noted that Plaza was not upset about not getting a chance to talk at the podium, as the cast knew that F. Murray Abraham would be speaking on their behalf.
“That’s her humor — she has that dry, deadpan wit; that’s her biting wit,” Gries explained.

Gries also shot down the rumor that Plaza was annoyed at not getting a chance to talk at the podium following the win. Gries explained that the cast knew co-star F. Murray Abraham would speak on their behalf.
“We wanted him to speak; we all wanted him to. He’s F. Murray Abraham! He’s a frigging legend,” Gries said of the 83-year-old Oscar winner.
Furthermore, Gries revealed that he texted Plaza the morning after to make sure she was not actually upset, to which she replied “No! Not at all!” She even joked that Gries had “saved” her from a wardrobe malfunction. Gries also said that the cast partied at the Chateau Marmont until 1:30 a.m. the night of the awards show, indicating that Plaza was not actually upset.
