Former ATF Agent Spills the Beans on Hells Angels Gang

The Hells Angels Motorcycle Club is one of the most notorious and well-known gangs in the world. Founded in San Bernardino, California, in 1948, the organization has since spread its wings to nearly 62 countries and 475 chapters.

Recently, a retired special agent who infiltrated the Hells Angels during a two-year undercover operation in 2001-2003 has revealed the gang’s strict sex rules. Jay Dobyns, the 61-year-old former Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) agent who posed as a gunrunner and debt collector during the operation, discussed the gang’s hierarchy and regulations in a video interview released Tuesday by Insider.

According to Dobyns, the Hells Angels have a strict hierarchy with regard to women. At the top of the chain are Old Ladies, which are wives and girlfriends of members. He said it was a “violent price to pay” if someone was caught messing around with a member’s wife or girlfriend.

In addition to the Old Ladies, there are also Hells Angel’s groupies who often appeared at the clubhouse. Dobyns did not specify whether sex was allowed inside the clubhouse but said parties were a frequent occurrence.

Dobyns also said that the Hells Angels are a complex organization made up of members with diverse lifestyles and interests. While some are involved in illegal activities, there are also chapters of the gang that are not involved in crime and are involved in community service.

During his infiltration of the gang, Dobyns and fellow undercover officers pretended to trade narcotics and even staged a murder. The two-year, $1 million operation resulted in the indictments of 55 Hells Angels members and associates, while 16 of the members were indicted on racketeering charges.

After Dobyns’ real identity was exposed, the ex-agent alleges, there was a hit put out on him and his family was placed “in jeopardy.” In 2008, his home was burned to the ground. Despite the threats to his life, Dobyns has spoken out about the gang and has published several books about his time undercover.
