On Friday night, Tom Brady opened up at an “unofficial retirement party” hosted by his NFT company, Autograph in Tampa, Florida. Brady, who recently retired from the NFL, revealed that he is now focusing on his children, Vivian Lake, 10, Benjamin Rein, 13, whom he shares with ex-wife Gisele Bündchen, and John “Jack” Edward, 15, whom he shares with ex Bridget Moynahan.
During his speech, Brady talked about how his love for football can’t compare to his dedication to his children. He said, “There is nothing I love more than football, but I have young children. They have watched enough of their dad’s games, and it’s time for me to watch their games.” Brady has previously stated that his kids were the best part of his last season.
On his Let’s Go podcast in January, Brady discussed the considerations he had to make when deciding whether or not to sign up for another NFL season. He said that priorities shift throughout one’s career and that his children had a major impact on his decision. Brady said, “The weight of life and the weight of the responsibilities of your life become more than — to value it, it’s your cost-benefit analysis, so to speak. What am I giving up now, to continue to play, as opposed to what am I gaining?”
Hours before announcing his retirement from the NFL last month, Brady spoke with PEOPLE about his kids’ role in his career. He said, “There’s an emotional component to those decisions which do weigh differently on you as you get older because you just have more responsibility in your life. And that responsibility is amazing. Children are — there’s nothing to me more important than my kids.”
